FAVORITE THINGS {August 2019}

Book of the Month

I know I shared a Kate DiCamillo book last month, but she's one of my faves. So she's featured this month as well.

The Tale of Despereaux will always hold a special place in my heart, for one main reason.

We have a rule in our house. If you want to watch a movie, you must first read the book. My daughter, Rachel (8 at the time) inhaled this story. We read on her own between our normal read aloud times, and then sat and listened to the parts she had already read with the other kids.

When we finished the book, we got the movie from the library. And Rachel spent the next two weeks complaining that they had "ruined the movie" and "How could they do that?" and "It was SUCH a good book and SUCH a pitiful movie!"

Oh, girl. Welcome to my world!

ALBUM OF THE MONTH

my kids love this one.

Just listen to this album and it's easy to see why!

It's fun. It's beautiful. It's truth.

This one is often on repeat in the kitchen as we clean up after meals. =)

Product of the Month

This Month is a two-for-one!!

Mason Jars + Mason Jar accessories!

I have a borderline obsession with Mason Jars.

I use them for storing food and pantry items.

I use them for pens and pencils in the school cabinet.

I use them for bathroom storage.

I store homemade yogurt and soups in them. And we drink from them of course =)

One of my favorite finds has been the sippy lids and straws for these jars! We use these for smoothies, or for the littlest of my littles to drink from without spilling. It just makes me happy =)

Homeschool Tips

#1

Create a routine rather than a schedule. Don't stress about when things happen.

#2

Plan your day around YOU. Don't try to do things like other moms, or the way a public school would. Work this into your life, not the other way around.

#3

Have FUN! You can learn a lot from being outside, cooking with your kids, or making a messy art project. Books are amazing, but they can be boring for young kids sometimes. Try to liven things up as much as possible.
