ABOUT Us

We are a homeschooling family of seven, attempting to homestead in Kentucky. We are learning to grow our own food, raise chickens (and hopefully, someday, goats!) and move toward a more self-sufficient lifestyle.

We LOVE books, and my older children and I have even written a few of our own. We have a passion for good literature, and could spend hours roaming used book stores.

This blog is mostly run by my oldest daughter (Rachel, 13) and me, and we can't wait to share some of our favorite books and stories with you!

Why "The Wild Haven"?

For over twenty years, I've dreamed of having a house full of children. In that dream, they aren't all mine. My five children help to fill up our small house, but my heart longs to provide a Haven for other children in need. My husband and I are in the research stages of foster care and adoption, and I hope to be able to provide that Haven soon!

When we moved out of the city to our 36 acres in Kentucky, my favorite part was setting my children free on the land. Watching them climb trees, splash in the creek, roll down hills, and come home completely caked in mud is a dream come true for me. I want them Wild! I want them barefoot in nature. I want them collecting rocks and turtle shells and bird's feathers.

Seeing my children build fires, pitch tents, and go hiking right in their own back yard is honey for this mama's soul. I love watching my Wild Things explore their Haven. And I can't wait to see more little Wildlings join them.
