Favorite Things {March 2019}
At least once a week I have a handful of people ask for recommendations for one thing or another. Whether it's home school curriculum, photography advice, childcare, music, read aloud ideas, homemaking advice (ha! Seriously, people, you're asking the wrong girl), teaching kiddos, etc. I get new questions all the time.
I find myself typing out the same answers to the same questions multiple times a month. This gave me the idea to do a monthly (or semi-monthly) post on "a few of my favorite things."
(FYI: if you didn't sing that last line, I'm not sure we can be friends.)
This will hopefully be the first of many posts! My goal is to recommend a good book, some good music, and maybe a household item I can't live without (I know, I'm being dramatic...I could easily live without 90% of my possessions...and I'm working on that) as well as other miscellaneous advice here and there. Please be sure to let me know if you have a specific question you'd like me to address in one of the upcoming Favorite Things posts!
FAVORITE THINGS {March 2019}
Book of the Month
This month we are reading a book called The Wild Robot, by Peter Brown. I don't know if it's the story-line or my killer robot voice, but my kiddos are loving this read aloud. My 4-year-old begs for a chapter at every meal! My 6-year-old is completely still and attentive during these chapters and, if you knew him, you'd know that doesn't happen often! The boy can't stay in one place very long before rushing off to fight bad guys or practice his ninja moves.
My 9-year-old claims she is too old for this story, yet somehow manages to be "doing something else" in the same area we are reading in every time I open the book. I catch her quietly giggling at the funny parts, and sneaking peeks at the pictures when she thinks I'm not looking. I'll take it =)
This has been a fun read, and has stirred a lot of questions about nature in my kiddos' minds. I spend about a third of the chapter pausing to answer one question or another. So much so that I'm thinking of counting this towards science this year! =)
ALBUM OF THE MONTH
Seeds of Courage. It's amazing, and it's our March Mini Van Album!
I choose a different CD each month to listen to while we drive, but this one is the most requested by my kiddos.
My sister, Angel, has given my children three of these CDs so far. All of my kids enjoy them, but my 6-year-old son has claimed them all for his own and sings or hums the songs all day long.
I have never taught my kids Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, or Old McDonald Had a Farm, or BINGO. I'm not interested in wasting brain space for those songs when I have options like this album readily available! My kids are singing scripture. It really doesn't get any better than that!
Product of the Month
Silicone Baking Cups!
It may sound crazy, but I love these things!
I use them for dipping sauces with veggies or chicken nuggets.
We use them for peanut butter and apples.
I use them for ice-cream or cupcake toppings when we have birthday parties.
Syrup on pancake days.
Sorting and counting beans as math manipulatives.
Holding water when we do watercolor painting.
Tiny containers of trail mix while we read The Wild Robot.
I use them as molds when I make homemade granola bars...which make them already perfectly sized for my minis and saves me from having to cut anything.
And, of course, muffins.
Seriously, I use these for everything!
