Dealing with picky eaters: my favorite mom tips.
Do you have picky eaters? Here's my favorite mom tip: When it comes to PB&J, I have one kid who likes a lot of PB with just a hint of J, another one wants a ton of jelly and just a little bit of PB, and one kid doesn't want wheat bread. "Just white, please." Here's how I do it...I make them all exactly the same way and give the kids two options: Take it or Leave it. So far it's been working out beautifully. 🙂 I'm not entirely mean, though. Their sandwiches smile at them. 🙂 I'm actually not kidding. I don't let my kids be very picky. They are each allowed to pick one food from their plates to not eat at each meal, but I refuse to make four different meals for four different kids. We plan to have more kids in the future, can you imagine how quickly that could get out of hand?!
I do my best to make meals that we all enjoy, but it's not possible 100% of the time. Sometimes, they just have to eat something they don't like, or go hungry. When we do have something I know they won't like, I try to make it a little more fun for them. I'll dress up their plates a bit by creating faces or shapes with their food, or have the kids help me prepare it. Being involved in the cooking makes them actually want to at least try a little bit of the food. Have a set of kid-sized kitchen gadgets ready for them. Likes these. Put them in charge of washing and/or chopping a new fruit or vegetable to get them excited about trying it.
How about you? Do you have any great tips for dealing with picky eaters? I'd love to hear them!
