A Story Begins.

When my sister comes to town, she almost always brings books. I don't know how she does it, but she has a gift for finding incredible books. Stories that elicit genuine emotion from my kids as they listen, and from their Mama as she reads aloud. I am apparently becoming more emotional as I age, because things that never effected me years ago do so greatly now. Maybe it's just the mama in me.

Once again, Aunt Angel did not disappoint. The book she brought us is quickly becoming a family favorite! It could very well be because my kids all have "Buds" that are very near and dear to their hearts. This story is speaking to them on a more personal level than many other stories we have read together. They are entranced. I am entranced.

We are currently only halfway through the book. I read a few chapters at bedtime, and a few during lunch or snack times. I normally like to make stories last a while by stretching the chapters out over the course of a week or two. This one, however, will not last. At the end of each chapter the pleas for more are loud and strong. I oblige immediately, but only because I'm desperate for more as well!

There is something very special about reading a story out loud to your children that you yourself are unfamiliar with. I've read many stories to them over the years (typically favorites from my own childhood) but reading a story I know nothing about is a new adventure for us all! I am thoroughly enjoying this adventure. I'm only halfway through and I am already sad that there will be an end soon.

I've missed the feeling of falling in love with a new book. I love watching my daughter experience that now! The excitement on her face when she runs to me to describe, in great detail, the adventures that occurred in the most recent chapter of her book. The fact that she says she feels as though the characters in her books are actually her friends. It's an incredible thing to witness. It takes me back to stories I read as a little girl that were special to me. "Friends" I made. I think about the fact that someone took the time to sit down and create those stories. It's a beautiful thing. It's my dream. To create stories that children everywhere will fall in love with. It was a dream when I was a girl, and an even greater dream now that I am a mother. This book has ignited that desire once again. Thanks to this incredible story, I find myself inspired to chase a dream.

To be continued.

Homeschool Tips

#1

Create a routine rather than a schedule. Don't stress about when things happen.

#2

Plan your day around YOU. Don't try to do things like other moms, or the way a public school would. Work this into your life, not the other way around.

#3

Have FUN! You can learn a lot from being outside, cooking with your kids, or making a messy art project. Books are amazing, but they can be boring for young kids sometimes. Try to liven things up as much as possible.
